![]() It is true, we all have blind spots in our vision caused by a lack of photoreceptor cells in the back of our eyes. However, we never notice them because our brain automatically imagines or invents what it thinks might be missing and fills in the blanks. Most of the time this works without any problems but there are times where something really important, like a car, is in our blind spot and can cause a major accident. It is a situation where we literally are incapable of seeing something. Even if we were to stare and stare at the area we still cannot see something when it is in our blind spot. The same is true for most of us who become too familiar with our surroundings in our work. It is easy to miss some very important feed back or a looming crisis or even some big opportunities because our mind never noticed them before and goes on auto pilot so we can focus on other things. Getting another set of eyes and looking at your usual day from different perspectives and frameworks can go a long way toward creating breakthroughs and compensating for your blind spots. If you don’t have someone you trust to help you then bring in a consultant. Even if it is for just one or two meetings, it will bring depth to your perceptions and keep you from operating on make believe.
